The history of Ehime University from its establishment in 1949 to the present.
1949 – 1955
| May 31, 1949 | The Law for Establishment of National Schools was promulgated, and Ehime University was established along with 69 other new national universities. The faculties are as follows. (Schools included in parentheses) Faculty of Humanities and Science (Matsuyama Senior High School) Faculty of Education (Ehime Normal School, Ehime Normal School for Young Men) Faculty of Engineering (Niihama Institute of Technology) |

| July 28, 1949 | The first entrance ceremony was held in 1949, with 599 students enrolling. |
| November 11, 1949 | The opening ceremony was held at the auditorium of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. |
| March 18, 1950 | Emperor Showa made a tour of the Shikoku region and visited our university. |
| October 13, 1952 | Ehime University’s Research Institute for Regional Society was established. |
| April 1, 1954 | The Faculty of Agriculture was established with the transfer of Ehime Prefectural Matsuyama University of Agriculture to the national government (annual transfer based on academic year progression). At the same time, the attached research farm (Tarumi) and attached training forest (Yokoya) were also transferred. |
| June 18, 1954 | A ceremony was held to mark the completion of the Daishinkan building donated by the Tsuda Scholarship Foundation to Josai University. |
1955-1947
| January 22, 1955 | A ceremony was held to celebrate the completion of the new memorial auditorium, which was built in the Johoku district of Ehime Prefecture with funds donated by 88 Ehime residents living in the Los Angeles area of the U.S., with the cooperation of the supporters’ association of the Faculty of Education and subsidized by the national treasury. |

| April 1, 1956 | An affiliated agricultural high school was established. |
| April 1, 1958 | The Department of Engineering and the Department of Agriculture were established. |
| October 30, 1961 | Fire broke out in the main building. The administration office, the student affairs office, the administration building of the Faculty of Education, and the social studies teaching building, totaling 1,860 square meters, were destroyed by fire. |
| April 1, 1963 | The Department of Education (Music) was established. |
| August 31, 1963 | The Faculty of Engineering moved from Niihama City to the Johoku area of Matsuyama City. |
| June 1, 1967 | The Graduate School of Engineering and the Graduate School of Agriculture were established. The Agriculture major and the other majors in the Engineering major, with the exception of the Civil Engineering major, were abolished. |
| April 1, 1968 | With the reorganization of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Faculty of Law and Letters, the Faculty of Science, and the Faculty of Liberal Arts were established. The Department of Engineering was abolished with the expansion of the Department of Civil Engineering in the Graduate School of Engineering. |
| April 1, 1969 | The Health Administration Center was established. |
| April 1, 1971 | The Faculty of Science’s Waterfront Experimental Station was established. |
| April 1, 1972 | The Department of Science was established. A school for children with special needs affiliated with the Faculty of Education was established. |

1973-1963
| September 29, 1973 | The Faculty of Medicine was established. The former Ehime Prefectural Institute of Public Health and Ward 12 of Matsuyama Red Cross Hospital were allocated as temporary facilities for the School of Medicine. |

| November 20, 1974 | The School of Medicine moved from the temporary facility to Shigenobu-cho, Onsen-gun, Oaza-Shizugawa. |
| May 10, 1976 | A hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine was established. |
| April 1, 1978 | The Graduate School of Science was established. |
| March 31, 1979 | The Department of Science was abolished. |
| April 1, 1979 | The Graduate School of Medicine was established. The Department of Law in the Faculty of Law and Literature was reorganized, and the “Daytime Course,” which offers classes mainly during the daytime, and the new “Evening Course,” which offers classes mainly in the evening, were established for the first time in Japan. The Faculty of Medicine’s Animal Experimentation Facility was established. The Controlled Agriculture Experimental Training Facility attached to the Faculty of Agriculture was established. |
| April 1, 1980 | The Center for Research and Guidance on Educational Practice attached to the Faculty of Education was established. |
| April 1, 1981 | The Graduate School of Law was established. |
| July 12, 1982 | The Information Processing Center was established. (Intramural measures) |
| April 1, 1983 | The Center for Laboratory Equipment attached to the Faculty of Medicine was established. |
| April 11, 1984 | An instrumental analysis center was established. |
| April 1, 1985 | The United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences (doctoral program of only three years in the second semester) was established. |
1989 – 2003 (prior to incorporation)
| April 1, 1989 | The school emblem, school colors and flag were established. |

| November 1, 1989 | Special Course for International Students of Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture was established in the United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences. |
| December 25, 1991 | The International Student Guidance Center was established. (Internal measures) |
| April 1, 1992 | D. program of the Graduate School of Engineering was established. |
| April 1, 1993 | The Graduate School of Education (Master’s Program) was established after the abolition of the Graduate School of Education. The Information Processing Center (an intramural measure) was abolished and the General Information Processing Center was established. With the implementation of the new curriculum (integrated undergraduate education), the liberal arts and specialized courses were abolished. |
| June 2, 1993 | The Center for Research and Practice of University Education was established. (Intramural measures) |
| June 24, 1994 | The Center for Community Collaboration Research was established. The Community Research Institute was abolished. |
| March 31, 1996 | The Liberal Arts Department was abolished. |
| April 1, 1996 | The Graduate School of Science was abolished. The Graduate School of Engineering was renamed and the Graduate School of Science and Engineering was established. |
| April 1, 1998 | The Graduate School of Law was abolished and the Graduate School of Law and Literature was established. The Graduate School of Medicine was renamed and the Graduate School of Medicine was established. A genetic experiment facility was established. |
| April 1, 1999 | The Center for Coastal Environmental Science was established. |
| April 1, 2000 | A Venture Business Laboratory was established. |
| April 1, 2001 | The Research Center for Deep Earth Dynamics was established. |
| April 1, 2003 | The Center for Cell-Free Bioscience and Engineering Research was established. The Integrated Science Research Support Center was established. The Comprehensive Information Processing Center was abolished and the Comprehensive Information and Media Center was established. |
2004 (after incorporation) – Present
| April 1, 2004 | Ehime University was incorporated and became a national university corporation, Ehime University. The Center for Experimental and Practical Education was established. Kagawa University Graduate School, Kagawa University & Ehime University United Graduate School of Law (Shikoku Law School) (professional degree program) was established. |

| April 1, 2011 | The Organization for the Promotion and Support of Advanced Research was reorganized and the Organization for the Promotion of Advanced Research and Academia was established. The Intellectual Property Division was reorganized and renamed the Intellectual Property Center. The Industrial Science and Technology Support Center was renamed the Industry-Academia Collaboration Promotion Center. The Plant Factory Demonstration, Exhibition, and Training Center was established. The Office of Social Collaboration Planning was established. The Integrated Science Research Support Center was established. The Academic Planning Office was established. |

| April 1, 2014 | The Venture Business Laboratory was abolished and the Applied Protein Research Facility was established. The Paper Industry Innovation Center was established. |
| April 1, 2015 | The Applied Protein Research Facility and the Integrated Science Research Support Center were reorganized to form the Academic Support Center. |
| April 1, 2016 | The Faculty of Social Co-creation was established. The Chemical Pollution and Coastal Environment Research Center was established. The Ehime University Charter was revised. |
| July 1, 2016 | The Regional Cooperative Center Saijo was established. The Regional Human Resource Development Support Office was established. |
| March 31, 2017 | Kagawa University Graduate School, Kagawa University and Ehime University United Graduate School of Law (Shikoku Law School) (Professional Degree Program) was abolished. |
| April 1, 2018 | A human rights center was established. The Regional Human Resource Development Support Office was renamed the Regional Human Resource Development and Recurrent Education Support Office. |
| April 1, 2019 | The Office of Regional Human Resource Development and Recurrent Education Support was renamed the Center for Regional Professional Human Resource Development and Recurrent Education Support. The Center for Regional Innovation Research was renamed the Center for Regional Co-Creation Research. The Shikoku Pilgrimage and World Pilgrimage Research Center was established. The Center for the Study of Haiku and Calligraphy Culture was established. The Center for the Study of Ancient Iron Cultures of East Asia was renamed the Center for the Study of Ancient Industrial Archaeology in Asia. |

| March 31, 2021 | The Comprehensive Center for Educational Practice attached to the Faculty of Education was abolished. |
| April 1, 2021 | The Center for Science Education and Research attached to the Faculty of Education was established. The Center for Inclusive Education attached to the Faculty of Education was established. |

Fifty-Year History of Ehime University
Fifty-Year History of Ehime University” was published to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ehime University. Comprised of three parts: General History, Departmental History, and Documents, it covers the 50-year history of Ehime University from 1949 to the present (1999).
